LOST CITY TREK

The Lost City Trek is an exciting trekking, where there will be no shortage of experiences and encounters with the indigenous people of the communities located along the way, while they carry out their daily activities, walking through the stone paths wrapped in the jungle that lead to Teyuna ( as the natives call it).

As the main activity, the Lost City Trek offers the trek to the Lost City (Teyuna), which is not easy at all, but it is worth making an effort to beat the heat, the mosquitoes and cross the rivers.

The Ciudad Perdida Trekking route has altitudes that vary between 800 and 1300 meters, in full rain forest colombiana, one of the last sanctuaries of biodiversity, brightly colored, where the current Kogui indigenous, Arhuaca and Wiwa (all descendants of the Tayrona), who continue to preserve their traditions, making this trip unique.

We begin our Lost City Trek tour from the city of Santa Marta, a few kilometers from Mamey or Machete Pelao, where we will arrive in a 4×4 Jeep since most of the route is not paved, which is where the trek will begin.

The management of our tours is entrusted to guides with experience in the area, except for the Lost City Trek, where indigenous guides are entrusted.
In the Lost City Trek, all the services that are not mentioned and appear in the program are also included.
The cost of the Lost City Trek must be paid with 50% at the time of confirmation and the remaining 50% at the time of departure.

1° DAY / Santa Marta - Lost City:

Early in the morning, we go with a 4×4 Jeep since a third of the route is not paved, to reach El Mamey or Machete Pelao (duration 2 hours approx.), Where the trekking to the Lost City will begin, while we have lunch, We meet our guide, and we set out to get to Cabaña Alfredo in the late afternoon, while we wait for dinner, we settle in and we can decide whether to sleep in a hammock or in bunk beds.

To Cabaña Alfredo
Distance: 9,2 km | Time: 3: 30h | Slope: uphill 900m downhill 600m

2° DAY / Lost City:

We wake up at the first light of dawn, while the guides will prepare breakfast for us. Immediately after, we start the trekking, meeting the Kogui Indians who walk the paths barefoot in their traditional clothes will be more and more frequent. We stopped for lunch at Cabaña Wiwa and to visit the Mutanzhi indigenous community. We will arrive at Cabaña Paraíso Teyuna late in the afternoon, where we can relax on the banks of the Buritaca River or take a refreshing bath, while we wait for dinner that our guides will be preparing for us. We return to Cabaña Paraíso Teyuna to have dinner and spend the night.

To Cabaña Paraiso Teyuna
Distance: 8,5 km | Time: 3:00h | Slope: uphill 700m downhill 300m

3 DAY / Lost City:

Early in the morning, but only after breakfast, we resume the trekking, but this time to reach our destination, we walk for fifteen minutes along the bank of the Buritaca River to the ford and from there the path will take us to the 1200 steps that we lead to Ciudad Perdida that the Arhuaco, Koguis and Wiwa Indians called Teyuna and believe that it was the center of a network of villages inhabited by their ancestors the Tayrona indigenous. After a well-deserved rest admiring the landscape of the Lost City, we descend to Cabaña Paraíso Teyuna to have lunch and continue the descent in the afternoon to Cabaña Wiwa for dinner and spend the night.

4° DAY / Lost City - Santa Marta:

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we resume the trekking, the descents prevail over the ascents, that is why we travel more kilometers, to return to El Mamey, arriving at noon to have lunch, where our 4×4 Jeep will be waiting to take us from back to Santa Marta.

No particular vaccinations are required.
The yellow fever vaccine is recommended only as a preventive measure, as there are no cases in this region.
